SAT  (Scholastic Aptitude Test)

The SAT consists of two types of tests, the SAT I and SAT II.  The SAT I assesses a student's verbal and mathematical skills; the SAT II is a subject-specific test that measures knowledge and skills. Both tests are important and are required by colleges for admission.

SAT Preparation Books and Websites
Explore free online SAT preparation materials from Number2, or Syvum, to sharpen your skills before the exam. FreeSAT1 Prep offers free tips as well as reviews of SAT books. Vocabulary University offers free SAT word puzzles.

You can visit the College Board's website to register for the test, take a free analysis, or purchase prep materials.  TestU also offers an online preparation course for a fee.

Sample Tests
You can buy a number of books with sample tests at bookstores, online, or in most department stores. Books with sample tests include Cracking the SAT With Sample Tests (with CD-ROM), 10 Real SATs, How to Prepare for the SAT I, and Kaplan SAT.

SAT Preparation Courses
Two organizations, Princeton Review and Kingsbury, offer courses locally.
